Authorization for Out-of-State Course Delivery
Southern Oregon University participates in the national State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement, making it possible for students from every state except Massachusetts to enroll in online courses offered by SOU.
In compliance with USDOE regulations, current and prospective students can find information about state authorization and complaint processes on the SOU State Authorization page. To determine whether programs in Education meet requirements for licensure in other states, contact the teacher licensing board in the appropriate state.
There are many resources available to you. Read on for detailed policies and procedures that you are expected to follow as a student at Southern Oregon University.
You are responsible for information communicated to you through your SOU email account, so be sure to check it frequently.

Your instructors will use your SOU email account for all course-related communication.
- Your SOU student e-mail account is the primary means of University communication including emergency alerts and important information about your billing and computing accounts. Learn about SOU Alert.
- Follow the instructions in this guide to using Inside SOU to activate your SOU email account.
- To check your SOU email account, log into Inside SOU and click on the EMAIL link at the top of the page.
- If you wish, you can set your student email account to automatically forward messages to another address by following these instructions.
- When sending messages or replying to your instructor, be sure to follow any relevant instructions. You instructor may require that you send messages from your SOU student email account and/or that you include your name and course title in the subject line.
- If you have difficulty accessing your email account, submit a ticket or contact the Help Desk at (541) 552-6900 or helpdesk@sou.edu.

The Office of Student Support and Intervention’s home page contains links to the Code of Student Conduct, grievance procedures, and other information important to you as an SOU student. You are expected to read and follow these policies and procedures.
A number of factors may prevent you from registering for classes or making changes to your registration. To check your registration status:
- Log into Inside SOU.
- Click on the Student & Registration Tools link under Banner Self-Service (SISWeb) in the Online Services area.
- Click on the Registration Status link in the Registration Tools box.
- Select a term and click on Submit.
- Click on the View Holds link at the bottom of the Registration Status page to see what holds are on your account.
- If you have any holds, see the View Holds Help Page for an explanation of each hold and how to resolve it. (You can get to the Help page through the link at the top right corner of the View Holds page.)
Waitlisted for a course?
You may find yourself “waitlisted” for a course—the course is fully enrolled when you sign up, but a place is being held for you in case another student drops the course. These instructions describe how waitlisting works and how to get formally enrolled if a place opens up for you.
